Why we exist

Built as an alternative to impersonal learning

Many students end up in systems that do not meet their needs, leaving them feeling lost. We created Lantern & Vine to offer a kinder and clearer experience; where students can be confident that their tutor is an expert in their subject and is dedicated to helping them achieve their goals.

Our ultimate aim is not just to improve marks or language level, but to help students feel more capable and confident.

What students can expect

Clear, steady, useful learning

  • Clear feedback: specific guidance, not vague praise.
  • Useful practice: lessons tied to genuine language development.
  • Manageable homework: targeted work that supports progress.
  • A visible plan: students know what they are improving and why.
  • Consistency: calm lessons with structure and purpose.

“

Good teaching should make students feel supported enough to try.

Our story

A timeline of how Lantern & Vine took shape

Lantern and Vine was established by Hayley Flynn in 2026 after years of working as a full time tutor. As someone with a lifelong love of the written word, Hayley pursued a PhD in English Literature, graduating in 2020. Her experiences with students across the world taught her that finding trustworthy and reliable specialist tutors can be a challenge - and thus Lantern and Vine was born! With Lantern and Vine, Hayley hopes to provide a place where parents and students can feel confident that they will find the help of real specialists at prices which keep the option of tutoring help open to all.

Foundation

Independent teaching begins

The foundations were built through direct teaching experience, working closely with learners and discovering what helped them improve most effectively.

Expansion

International expansion

Teaching widened across different backgrounds and goals, helping shape a more adaptable and student-centred approach.

Launch

Lantern & Vine is created

The company was formed to offer a more personal alternative to larger platforms and rigid learning systems.

Now

Refining a calmer way to learn

Lantern & Vine continues to focus on thoughtful teaching and clear progress for every student.

How we teach

A simple system with room for the individual

We like structure, but not rigidity. Lessons should be clear and structured, while still flexible enough to respond to the student’s actual strengths, weaknesses, pace, and goals.

Clarity

Students should never be left guessing what good work looks like.

Progress

Improvement works best in steady steps that can actually be felt.

Confidence

Skill grows faster when students feel safe enough to try.

Depth

We build genuine ability, not just short-term performance tricks.
