FAQ

Common questions

Answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

Do you teach online or in person?

We teach online. It’s flexible and low pressure, allowing you to keep learning wherever you are.

How long is a lesson?

Most lessons are one hour long, but we may recommend shorter sprints (30-45 minutes) or longer sessions (2 hours) depending on the situation.

What should we bring to the first lesson?

Your tutor will find it helpful if you can show them some of your recent written work. It may also be a good idea to bring paper and a pen/pencil, if you prefer to take physical notes. However. neither of these are necessary and we will never require additional purchases for our lessons.

Can you help with exam technique?

Yes! We practise under timed conditions and learn how mark schemes reward answers.

Do you help anxious or hesitant learners?

Yes. We use a flexible structure, calm pacing, and manageable next steps so learners can build confidence without feeling rushed.

What if we are not sure which service fits?

No problem! Just send us your current level, goal, and anything you are finding particularly challenging. We will recommend the simplest starting point.

Still stuck?

How to analyse a quote (3 steps)

This is one of the most common GCSE sticking points. The trick is to move from “spotting” to “explaining”.

  1. Point: State what your quote shows (what have you 'spotted?')(link to the question).
  2. Method: Name what the writer is doing (word choice, imagery, contrast, punctuation).
  3. Effect: Explain how it creates meaning (tone, mood, theme, reader response).

Useful reminder

A question now can save stress later

If you are unsure about your method, timing, exam board, or resources, it is worth asking before things start to pile up.
